People. That's the theme for this week. It started off as an idea to incorporate the human figure into editing with an image I took of people walking on the beach. But as the week went on and the impending talk on Thursday by Richard Spencer drew ever closer, it evolved into a project that allowed me to protest the message that was coming to Gainesville. A message of hate that I do not believe in nor can I begin to identify with. I wanted to express my hope for unity in humanity.
I selected my figures from the image above, which has people in varying perspectives walking along the beach. Selections are quite tricky in photoshop, especially when you have more detailed subject matters. It feels as though I could spend hours on some selections getting them just right. Sometimes the tools don't want to cooperate. Perhaps a subject has undefined edges that meld into the background a little too much. Or maybe there's some hair or an intricate space between the arms and torso. I got as precise as I could without spending an absurd amount of time. In fact, I actually liked how some of the figures had a surreal quality about them.
